Silver Spring, Maryland — US manufacturing growth picked up in May, despite supply chain problems and companies struggling to find workers.
The Institute for Supply Management, an industry group of purchasing managers, announced on Tuesday that the index of manufacturing activity rose from 60.7 in April to 61.2.
Numbers above 50 indicate that manufacturing is expanding. In May, manufacturing grew for 12 consecutive months after shrinking in April 2020 when the fear of the coronavirus caused business closures nationwide.
