Colorado Springs, Colorado 2022-05-12 19:06:47 –

The US government was reluctant to investigate its role in depriving Native American culture and identity in boarding schools. until now.

This is partly due to the fact that the US government has people who are directly aware of the persistent trauma caused by the boarding school system. Still, the job of uncovering the truth and paving the way for healing requires financial resources.

Tribes need to navigate federal law on their return to take home the indigenous children who died and were buried in boarding schools. And some survivors may hesitate to tell the painful past and trust the federal government to collect stories.

“Working with the inside, knowing that there are federal government representatives who understand these experiences deep within themselves as well as historical records, their own personal stories are really different. Will be born. ” Said Deborah Parker, Chief Executive Officer of the National Native American Boarding School Healing Union and a member of the Tulalip tribe.
