Attorney in Florida Gunman The killer of 17 people at a Parkland high school surprised prosecutors and judges today by suddenly dropping his case. A jury is considering whether gunman Nicolas Cruz will receive the death penalty or life in prison.

Cruz’s attorney said he planned to call 80 witnesses. Recently, jurors heard from acquaintances, school counselors, and psychologists about Cruz’s troubled childhood. Dr. Kenneth Jones said, “I have never seen anyone affected (to this degree) by prenatal exposure to alcohol.”

The defense case followed weeks of testimony and evidence presented by prosecution documentation cruise runaway Through Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. They watched chilling surveillance videos of Cruz firing an AR-15 style rifle in hallways and classrooms, shooting several victims multiple times. I saw biopsy autopsies and heard the coroner’s testimony.

In court Wednesday, Judge Elizabeth Scherrer was not satisfied when she said about 40 witnesses were still scheduled to testify and that defense counsel had stopped their case. was obviously angry. She called it “unprofessional” and said the government and courts were not ready for the next stage of the trial, a counter-argument by the prosecution. “You’re insulting me in front of my clients. ‘You’ve been insulting me all through the trial,'” said Judge Scherer. “Frankly,” she said.

Scherrer said jurors will return on Sept. 27 for the prosecution’s counter-arguments. Closing arguments are due for him to begin on October 10th.
