Washington(NewsNation Now) — The US Supreme Court on Monday paved the way for New York City prosecutors to obtain former President Donald Trump’s tax returns and other financial records as part of a criminal investigation.

Judge rejected Trump’s hold request October 7 Inferior Court Decision He instructed the former Republican President’s longtime accounting firm, Mothers USA, to comply with the subpoena and submit materials to a grand jury convened by Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

“The application for a stay presented to Judge Breyer and referred to the court was rejected.” The judge wrote.

The Supreme Court has already ruled once in a controversy, rejecting a wide range of claims in July last year that Trump was exempt from criminal investigations as incumbent president.

Mr. Trump calls DA’s investigation a “fishing expedition” and “continuation of witch hunting-the greatest witch hunting ever.”

Unlike all other recent US presidents, Trump refused to publish his tax return during his four-year tenure. The data may provide details about his wealth and the activities of the Trump organization, the real estate company of his family.

Trump, who resigned on January 20, after being defeated by Democrat Joe Biden in a reelection bid on November 3, continues to face a series of legal issues regarding his personal and business conduct.
