Colorado Springs — The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) graduation from 2022 will take place on May 25th at Falcon Stadium. This year, Team USA’s Olympic gold medalist will fly with Thunderbird.

USAFA has invited Erin Jackson, the gold medalist of the 2022 Olympic speed skating, to fly with the Thunderbirds in the morning flight over Colorado Springs. She is from Ocala, Florida, and is the first black woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport of speed skating. After her flight, Jackson visits Vice Admiral Richard M. Clark, Principal of the Air Force Academy, and congratulates the Academy’s 2022 class cadets on becoming new Air Force and Space Force officers. ..

Thunderbird’s aerial demonstration team will conclude the 2022 class graduation with a 30-minute performance at the Falcon Stadium. The performance is scheduled from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm immediately after throwing the hat.

On Tuesday, May 24th, Thunderbird will fly a practice mission over the Academy’s Falcon Stadium. Major road closures and detours are planned at the Academy under the performance area on Tuesday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 25, as required by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Closures include the Santa Fe Trail and the road below the show area. It is from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. Tuesday, May 24th, and Wednesday, May 25th, from 10am to 2:30 pm. Closures include:

• Stadium Boulevard – From Pine Drive to Northgate Boulevard
• Community Center Drive – From Stadium Boulevard. To E. Douglas Drive
• Academy Drive – From Stadium Boulevard.To lot 6
• Santa Fe Trail from the bridge at the three intersections to the parade loop

For public safety, drivers should be careful not to stop along the I-25 or Academy roads to see Thunderbird’s performance.
