Vaccine rollout continues in Middleburg Heights for those 80 and over – Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio 2021-01-23 22:59:25 –

Middleburg Heights, Ohio (WJW) — On a full schedule, the Southwest General Health Center hosted a second COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Middleburg Heights Community Center.

“We announced our appointments on our website at 11:00 am on Monday, and they were full within minutes,” said pharmacy director Stacy Zolska.

She says 210 people over the age of 80 were shot on Saturday according to Phase 1B of Ohio.

“I was a little relieved,” said Jean Neumann, who got the vaccine.

The feelings shared by Herb Myers. “I feel safer, and I hope everyone gets it and feels like this.”

However, Zolska says demand far exceeds current supply. “I have enough vaccine to give everyone a second dose. That is promised to us. Therefore, if you are vaccinated today, give a second dose within 4 weeks. You can receive it. “

Some vaccinated people say it took weeks to make an appointment.

“I was looking for a place to do that,” Neumann, 82.

Others had their families help them navigate the technology. But they say it’s worth it.

“I just want a second one, wait 14 days and then go out with my friends again,” said 80-year-old Renata Matony.

“I have a girlfriend. I’m 89 and she’s 91. You know we enjoyed life, but when this happened we stopped. We stopped. Has stopped completely and now wants to go back to the restaurant and do the same thing as before, “Myers said.

And as the state begins vaccination of people over the age of 75 next week, more Ohio are looking to make their appointments soon.

Southwest General says appointments will be released when the supply on hand increases, which is the most difficult part of the process.

“We haven’t received confirmation from the state when to receive the additional Phase 1B vaccine, so we can’t do that yet,” Zorska said. “If you have enough vaccine, you will have a clinic 5 or 6 days a day.”

Still, she says she’s happy that they can start protecting people in their community.

“Vaccination of individuals after months of COVID brings us hope. This is one of the best I’ve ever had in my career.” Zorska said.
