Valley faith leaders raise concerns about Pride Night at Fresno Chaffee Zoo – Fresno, California

Fresno, California 2022-06-22 23:33:14 –

Fresno, CA (KFSN)-Leaders of faith, city, and county gathered at Eaton Plaza in downtown Fresno on Wednesday to openly oppose the upcoming family-friendly pride night at Fresno Chaffee Zoo this week.

Leaders called for not only an event at the zoo, but also a pride flag hoisting at the city hall and prayers at the ceremony.

Statements signed by more than 60 pastors and board members of various valley churches condemned the flag-raising ceremony.

“Besides the fact that the flag was erected outside the city hall, the problem for me was the evil blasphemous prayer that attacked Jesus Christ and Christians,” said Gary Bredefeld. Said.

“This is not a political statement, it is about our understanding of the Bible and our expression of religious freedom,” said Jim Franklin, Chief Pastor of the Cornerstone Church.

However, the prayer call at Eaton Plaza on Wednesday led to tension.

Many members of the LGBTQ + community said they were threatened because the rhetoric surrounding the Pride Night fundraiser was also questioned.

Fundraising is an overtime private event. Many have expressed concern over the upcoming drug show at the event.

Rev. Franklin said, “We have the right to oppose. We have freedom of religion. People have different views, which are the demonization of people and the physical attacks of people or people. How I oppose everyone when escalating to abuse. “

Outside the city hall, in stark contrast, members of the LGBTQ + community and allies gathered.

Organizer Haley White said, “People are threatened with murder, and people can come out and see them being supported … that means something. I will do it. “

“What’s happening now is due to a lack of education and awareness, as well as religious aspects,” said Zayn Anthony, Chair of Trans EMotion.

Rosio Velasco-Stoll, the founder of the LGBTQ + resource center Fresno’s Spectrum Center, has become a representative of the drug community and has “there are these strict restrictions and demands when doing family shows. People aren’t aware of that. “

Rosio says costumes, music and decorations have been carefully reviewed when it comes to drug entertainment at family events.

“It will take years for someone to be there for the family, so much of what is being seen is from a local club show and is demonic,” Velasco-Stoll said. It has been abused. “
