Fresno, Calif. (KFSN)-Jalen Green from the Valley is in the Top 3 of the 2021 NBA Draft after quitting college basketball and starting his professional career shortly after joining the NBA / G League Pathway Program. It was chosen.

On Thursday, Green was ranked second overall by the Houston Rockets.

Green joined the Rockets team, which ended the NBA’s worst record last season 17-55. The Rockets had previously played off for eight consecutive seasons prior to last season.

The Rockets lost 20 games in a row shortly after trading with all-star James Harden, who had been the centerpiece of the franchise for eight seasons. The roster is currently shifting to younger cores such as Kevin Porter Jr., Christian Wood and Jae’Sean Tate.

The Valley natives had a three-year decorated career at the San Joaquin Memorial High School. Jalen led the Panthers to a series of D-2 Valley titles, averaging 30.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per third grade game.

Green opted out of college basketball and became the first player to participate in the G League program, a one-year development program under the supervision of the league.

Green shot 46% from the field and 36% from the three-point line, averaging 17.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG and 2.8 APG during the lonely season at the G League Ignite.

Earlier this month, Green returned to the Central Valley, where he had the opportunity to specially refurbish his childhood court and connect with the community.

“It’s surreal in a way,” Green said at Collijan Park. “I didn’t think I was here. I came from nothing. At first I wasn’t even a basketball player. It’s a blessing. That’s what I can say.”

Green always envisioned a courtroom before the NBA Draft. When he signed with Adidas in May, the idea became a reality. A partnership between Adidas, Green, Project Backboard and the City of Fresno has created a refurbished court.
