Las Vegas (KTNV) —A man faces multiple accusations in connection with a domestic incident in which a child was thrown from the balcony of an apartment over the weekend.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported that Jarick Willis was detained after throwing her girlfriend’s daughter from the balcony on the third floor to the ground on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 4:45 pm at the Boulder Pines Apartment on the Boulder Highway near Desert Inroad.
Upon arrival, police found the body of a five-year-old girl on the ground of an unconscious apartment complex. According to police, she was immediately taken to Sunrise Hospital.
Witnesses and the girl’s mother informed police that Willis was the one who threw the girl off the balcony.
And according to the arrest report, Willis told her mother, Angela Matthews, that she thought her daughter was “full of evil spirits” and that she believed she was a “devil.”
That night, Matthews told police that Willis went into the living room and dressed after taking a shower. Willis heard his son screaming in the living room that he had thrown his child off the balcony.
Matthews says he saw Willis leaning on the balcony while finding his daughter’s body on the ground.
The mother told police she was afraid of her life and the lives of other children, so she armed her and shot Willis in the bathroom of her apartment during the conflict.
Willis was seriously injured and was transferred to a university medical center that night, officials said.
According to LVMPD, the child survived the fall, but could have fractures of the forearms, pelvis, legs, ribs, collapse of the lungs, and fractures of the sternum.
Willis is guilty of child abuse and / or neglect, attempted murder and domestic violence.
