Vegas valley woman feeds homeless – Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas (KTNV) — Macaroni and cheese trays and fruit juice boxes, blankets, clothes, sanitary goods, sleeping bags and more are all loaded into the trunk as part of the Feed My Sheep Homeless Outreach caravan. Sandra Lambert and her volunteers ride in various parks around the Las Vegas Valley, distributing food and essentials to homeless men and women.

“The key to this is to get to know these people and build relationships with them,” Lambert said.

Sandra’s view of the homeless was so different from today that it is important to know the people she serves.

She started the group eight years ago as an annual court drive. Then it snowballed into a biweekly event. But before she realized that Sandra was calling to serve the homeless, she says she didn’t have a high opinion about the men and women sleeping in these parks. It wasn’t until she saw her family affected. Two of her nieces are fighting drug addiction.

“One of them lives on the street, so I feel that it’s the root of why I just started court driving eight years ago,” Sandra said. “My other nieces are now completely calm and have achieved a complete 360, so I have hope. People on the street have hope.”

During Thanksgiving Week, Sandra held the first Potluck of Feed My Sheep in the park. Thanksgiving equipment such as green bean casseroles, pumpkin pies, peach cobblers and, of course, turkeys were prepared by volunteers and provided in a restaurant style to those who are hungry for hot plates. Sandra led the blessing of the meal.

Sandra wants to turn Feed My Sheep into a non-profit organization with the goal of making Potluck in the Park a monthly event. She wants more valley inhabitants to join her herd, but she says the ultimate goal is to run a homeless village.

“It’s self-functioning. We’re helping them recover, return home, and contribute to society.”

Sandra’s service is why she is the Vegas Strong Champion in December.
