ATLANTA (CBS46) — Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the U.S. and is observed annually on Nov. 11. The holiday honors military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. It replaced Armistice Day in 1954.

Many restaurants and businesses in metro Atlanta will be honoring local veterans with special deals. Additionally, there will be special events and ceremonies throughout the metro Atlanta area. 

NOTE: Please confirm deal with individual restaurant etc. before placing order. Additionally, please be prepared to show a valid military ID or proof of service. 

Applebee’s is offering active-duty military and veterans a free entree from a special selection on Veterans Day. 

Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar is offering its All-American Burger with choice of cheese and one of its basic sides (fries, tots, sweet potato fries or chips) for FREE to veterans and active duty military professionals who dine in on Veterans Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. *Proof of service is required. This offer is valid for dine-in only. 



Barnes & Noble is offering free coffee or tea on Nov. 11 to all military members and veterans. 

Buffalo Wild Wings is offering military members and veterans a free order of 10 boneless wings. Dine-in or takeout (no online orders). 

California Pizza Kitchen is offering veterans and active-duty military with a complimentary meal on Nov. 11. CPK’s Veteran’s Day menu includes a choice of one entrée (pizza, pasta and salads are all available) and a beverage. 

Chicken Salad Chick is offering all veterans and active duty military a “Chick Special” and regular drink on Nov. 11. 

Chili’s is offering a free meal from a selected menu on Nov. 11. Dine-in only. 

Denny’s is offering a free Build Your Own Grand Slam to veterans from 5 a.m. to noon Nov. 11. 

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is giving free sandwiches to veterans who use the code VETFREE on Veterans Day. Plus, from Nov. 11 through Dec. 31, Barbecue at Home by Dickey’s is taking 15% off all orders for veterans when they use the code VETERAN15. 

Dunkin’ will once again offer veteran and active military members a free donut of their choice on Nov. 11. Additionally, Dunkin’ will keep our military members running by donating 30 pounds of Dunkin’ coffee and 2,000 Dunkin’ K-cups to USO of Georgia. * Limit one per guest while supplies last. Millers Ale House is offering 50% off of entrees on Nov. 11 to military members and veterans with proof of service. Miller’s has three locations in Atlanta.  

Movie Tavern by Marcus is offering free popcorn to all active and retired military members on Veterans Day. Movie Tavern by Marcus also offers a  offers a military discount to all active and retired Military members who present an official Military ID card at the box office when purchasing a ticket to see a movie for only $7.50 at any time. 

Office Depot/Office Max is offering 25% off qualifying regular and sale-priced purchases at its stores nationwide to veterans between Nov. 11 through Nov. 13. To take advantage of this special discount, customers must present a valid military ID, military dependent ID or form of veteran ID at the time of purchase. 

Outback Steakhouse is offering a free Bloomin’ Onion and Coca-Cola on Veterans Day. Punch Bowl Social opens at 11 a.m. There will also be food and drink specials between 4 and 6 p.m. during happy hour. 

Red Lobster is offering dine-in guests with a valid military ID or proof of service a free appetizer or dessert on Nov. 11. Appetizers include stuffed mushrooms, stuffed coconut shrimp, lobster and artichoke dip, ragoons, shrimp cocktail, mozzarella cheesticks and more. Shoney’s is offering a free all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on Nov. 11 from open until 11 a.m.

CEREMONIES/EVENTS

The city of Acworth will say thank you to its veterans during a Veterans Day ceremony from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at Patriots Point at Cauble Park, 425 Beach Street.

Sandy Springs is holding its 12th annual Veterans Day Tribute at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 on the Green at City Springs, 1 Galambos Way. Retired USMC Lt. Col. Roni A. Meyerhoff is the keynote speaker. Returning as emcee for the event is U.S. Army veteran, Sandy Springs resident, and former WSB anchor John Pruitt. The Sandy Springs Police Department and the Sandy Springs Fire Department Honor Guard will also participate in the tribute. The event is fee and open to the public. 

Cobb County is hosting a military appreciation luncheon on Nov. 4 in advance of Veteran’s Day. The 69th annual ARMAC Military Appreciation Luncheon is their largest celebration of their men and women in the armed forces. A highlight of the luncheon will be presentation of the USA Patriot of the Year Award. The luncheon is happening at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at Cobb Galleria Centre. Emory University will host its annual Veterans Day commemoration at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 on Emory’s Quadrangle. There will be a flag ceremony with Emory vets and ROTC cadets. Guest speaker is U.S. Army veteran Max Hilsman with Morgan Stanley. Jeff Rosensweig, Goizueta Business School associate professor of finance, will return for the fifth year as master of ceremonies. The program will start with a salute to the flag during the National Anthem. Then, at 11:11 a.m. there will be a moment of silence for Armistice Day, which marks the end of World War I hostilities at the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th month. The ceremony will close with the “Armed Forces Medley” followed by refreshments. 

Gwinnett County has moved its Veterans Day ceremony indoors. it is taking place at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. Maj. General (ret.) Ronald Johnson, a professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s ceremony.  County Administrator Glenn Stephens will emcee the event with District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden, District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III and District 4 Commissioner Marlene Fosque providing remarks. 

The city of Kennesaw is inviting service members past and present to enjoy a free lunch at noon Nov. 11 at Ben Robertson Community Center on Watts Drive. Families are also welcome. A small program will include the presentation of the colors, the singing of the National Anthem, an address from the mayor and a guest speaker. Curbside meals will also be available. The 17th annual Veterans Day Parade is happening Nov. 11 in Marietta. The parade will begin at the Roswell Street Baptist Church at 10:45am and march up towards the Marietta Square and back down Lawrence Street with the intention of being on the Square by 11:11am.

Smyrna will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Park on King Street. This year’s featured speaker is Thanh Boyer, author of The Ground Kisser. Her autobiographical story of a little girl who became one of the Vietnamese boat people was an Amazon bestseller and a 2018 NGCWC Georgia Peach Award winner. 

Powder Springs will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Powder Springs Veterans Memorial on Atlanta Street in front of the Powder Springs Library. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Ford Reception Center behind the library.

The Atlanta VA Health Care System will host a Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Briarcliff Church on Briarcliff. The parade will then travel to the Atlanta VA Medical center in Decatur. The event is free and open to the public.
