Spartanberg, South Carolina (WSPA)-A visit to Converse University’s former president Jeffrey Barker, who died in a bicycle accident on Meadowbrook Road on July 21, was held on Sunday.
It was a day when many people were in mourning.
Dr. Barker was a big part of the Spartanburg community.
Barker’s death sent a shock wave to Spartanberg.
Kim Kent, a former member of the Converse Board of Directors, said:
Barker has worked in college for over 20 years and has been deeply involved in the community.
Kent says she has countless memories of Barker.
Barker, “I spent a lot of time with Dr. Barker and I know what I say about him in connection with Converse in the first few minutes of telling him his love for students. I think it was. “
Since his death, 7 News has learned how important he is to make Converse University today.
“He was planning to go back to the classroom to teach after serving as the president of the university. I think his students would say, his colleagues would say it was really his first love. I think, “Kent said.
Many friends and family attended on Sunday, celebrating who he was and remembering his legacy.
“The impact he has had on the campus over the last two decades will be felt over the years to come,” Kent said.
A campus-wide monument will be held at Converse University on August 27th.
The memorial service was also broadcast live, and a memorial fund was established.
