Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — Virginia Beach EMS has renamed its headquarters after a longtime former chief.

The facility, now entitled “Bruce W. Edwards Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services Headquarters and Training Center,” honors the former chief who worked for 32 years.

Edwards has worked for Virginia Beach’s rescue system for 42 years, starting with the Ocean Park Volunteer Fire Rescue Team in 1967. He ended his career as Chief Emitas in 2016.

The Saturday ceremony in honor of Edwards featured Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dier, Senator Bill Destev, and Representative Glen Davis.

In a social media post, VBEMS states that Chief Edward’s impact on the city is “forever.”
