Wichita, K. (KSNW) – Some Wichitas spent this Thanksgiving Day cooking a feast at the Roads Diner in downtown Wichita.
KSN has found workers preparing turkeys, stuffing and green beans to feed about 1,000 people. Staff said Thanksgiving is usually delayed because they often receive free turkey and equipment. But preparing food is very rewarding, she says.
“Well, knowing that we care for people who don’t normally care, my heart is filled with joy,” said Darlen Engels.
KSN News talked with two volunteers. One person celebrated Thanksgiving with his family last night and said he wanted to do something good today. Another said she would come every week to help.
“We had nothing else to do, and I felt it was good to give back to those who didn’t have anything,” said volunteer Trisha Powell.
“I love you. This is such a blessing. It’s the highlight of my week, and I don’t know. I feel like I know you’re helping others.” Jana Oelkers, who volunteers on Friday, said.
