Sumner County, Tennessee (WKRN) — The Mayor of Portland is looking for volunteers to help clear up the heavy storm on Thursday night before the next bad weather on the weekend.

Mayor Mike Charis posted on the city’s Facebook page Friday morning, explaining that the area of Cook Road, away from Highway 259, was severely damaged.

He said the damage included collapsed barns, damaged houses, roofs torn from buildings, as well as large debris and fallen trees.

“If I could volunteer today, I think I’m ready to go out to the area. Check with another homeowner and say,” Can I pick you up or help me? What do you need? ” “Charis said in a Facebook video.

According to the mayor, city equipment will also be brought in to support cleaning activities.

Four people were reportedly injured in the Portland area as a result of the storm.

Mayor Charis said residents reported the possibility of a tornado touchdown, but the National Weather Service pointed out that the damage was likely the result of a linear wind.
