Last year, according to a USDA test report, Lira was about 16 years old. Futrell did not comment on the age mismatch.

Lira was the target of the PETA campaign last year. On February 25, PETA sent a letter to zoo owners asking for information about Lira, repeatedly asking USDA about Lira’s hair loss.
