Wal-Mart’s longtime Chief Financial Officer Brett Bigs leaves the company

WalmartBrett Bigs, longtime chief financial officer of the company, has left the company, retailers announced on Monday.

The company said in a news release that Biggs would continue its role until a successor was appointed, assist in the transition, and leave the company on January 31, 2023. He is also a board member of Walmart’s fintech startup. As part of the transition, it is a joint venture with Ribbit Capital.

Wal-Mart said it would consider internal and external candidates for that role.

Biggs has been with the company for 22 years and has been a prominent leader in Walmart, the country’s largest private employer. He has been CFO of Wal-Mart for almost six years since it began in late 2015.

Prior to serving as CFO of Wal-Mart, Biggs climbed the ladder of a large retail store. He was Chief Financial Officer of Wal-Mart International, Wal-Mart US, and Sam’s Club. He was also Senior Vice President of International Strategy, M & A. Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance. Senior Vice President of Operations for Sam’s Club.

Wal-Mart CEO Doug McMillon said in a news release that Bigs helped grow the physical and e-commerce businesses and weave the two together to make the company stronger.

“Bret’s high personality and strong leadership have played a central role in one of the most important periods in the company’s history,” he said.

Biggs said in a release that he felt right to resign after working for a retailer for over 20 years.

“Given the company’s excellent positioning and momentum, it now feels like a good time to move on to the next chapter in my personal and professional life,” he said in the release.
