Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) – The funeral of Senator Therma Harper, Tennessee, is underway in Nashville.
The funeral, entitled “Hat for Senator Selma Harper,” will be held at Tennessee State University’s Gentry Center (3500 John A. Merritt Blvd.) And will be open to the public in need of a mask. The last visit is from 10 am to 11 am and the funeral lasts from 11 am to 1 pm.
A capacity limiting protocol will also be introduced. Once the capacity is reached, attendance will not be permitted.
Following the funeral, the convoy will escort Senator Harper’s body to the western part of the Greenwood Cemetery for burial.
The general public is also invited to a farewell rally and barbecue at the Kingdom Cafe, which was Harper’s restaurant after the convoy. I need a mask.
Senator Harper died in late April at the age of 80.. During her time as a State Senator, she represented Nashville in the Legislature for 30 years and served in the 19th arrondissement.
She is the longest female state senator in state history and became the first African-American woman to be elected to the state senator in 1991.
