Milwaukee-based WEC Energy Group has agreed to take 90% ownership of the Sapphire Skywind Energy Center in McLean County, Illinois. The project is being developed by Invenergy.
The Sapphire Sky site consists of 64 wind turbines with a total capacity of 250 MW. Commercial operation is planned by the end of 2022.
WEC Energy Group’s investment is expected to total $ 421 million for 90% ownership. With this project, the company’s infrastructure segment plans to invest in eight major wind farms with a total capacity of over 1.5 gigawatts.
