Paris-Europe wants to be open to Americans and other visitors after more than a year of COVID regulation, bringing tourists and their dollars back to the continent’s trattorias, views and cultural properties. However, travelers need patience to understand who, how, when and in which country they can enter.

When the European Union door opens to the outside world for the first time since March 2020, tourists will discover patchwork of the system rather than a single borderless leisure zone. Pandemic. And after Brexit, Britain is on a completely unique path.

On the other hand, the welcoming mood is not always mutual. For example, the US border remains largely closed to non-Americans.

It shows the current immigration rules in some popular European tourist destinations. One caveat: These are government-written regulations, but travelers can run into hiccups when airlines and railroad officials try to understand them.

If you are vaccinated, please come to France. However, only if you have one of the four EU-approved vaccines (Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson). This works for Americans as long as official evidence of vaccination can be produced, but it does not work in a wide range of the world, such as China and Russia, where other vaccines are used.

The French border was officially reopened on Wednesday. Visitors vaccinated outside of Europe and from some “green” countries are required to have a negative PCR test within 72 hours or a negative antigen test within 48 hours. Unvaccinated children can enter with vaccinated adults, but must show a negative test result from the age of 11.

Tourists are banned from 16 countries wrestling with the Red List virus surge and the variants of concern, including India, South Africa and Brazil.

Visitors who have not been vaccinated from “Orange List” countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, cannot come to sightseeing just for certain urgent reasons.
