Molly Glad wants to be an Olympic water polo player

Portland, Oregon (KOIN) — There is no doubt that dedication and effort are required to be the best in the game. But for four-time junior Olympic athlete Westlin water polo Mollygrad, he has a dream to take it to the next level.

Glad tells KOIN 6 News that she took her to the water like a fish.

“The whole family needs to swim,” she said. “My grandpa was an Olympic trial swimmer and a phenomenal swimmer, so they put me in the water when I was two.”

By the age of nine, she was competing for swimming and rock climbing when her mother advised her to try water polo.

“Since then, I have loved it,” she said. “Everything about it is like this combination of swimming and mountaineering — you have power, but you have water. Water polo is much better, so you have to stop swimming. When I didn’t get it, it wasn’t a difficult decision. I was a little tired of staring at the black line. “

For years, Grad was chasing her big dream with the help of family, school and water polo training. She woke up at 4 am and her mother prepared coffee and lunch to prepare for a long day. She trained and educated herself with the ultimate goal of being an Olympic athlete and a pediatric neurosurgeon.

But in the middle of high school, training as hard as possible in Portland wasn’t enough. To train with the best of the best, Grad enrolled in George Washington University’s online high school (online public school) and moved to Los Angeles. There she trains with and learns from Olympic athletes while earning a high school degree.

“It’s the best coaching and if you want to make your dreams come true, that’s the only thing I can do,” she said.

Already a four-time junior Olympic athlete, Grad is devoted to the University of Southern California and This summer’s Tokyo game Expecting her to join them within a few years.

“When I see it, there is definitely a special place in my heart that makes me want to go there someday, and that is the driving force for that.”
