Corpus Christi, Texas — West Oso Independent School District students, staff, and visitors no longer need to wear masks on their property.

A specially called board of directors, held in the district administration building at noon on Monday, brought a tense moment and cast 3-2 votes to cancel Mask’s mission.

“When one of our employees or students dies of COVID, and when each of you dies of COVID, we hope you can live with yourself,” voted board member Liz Gutierrez. I mentioned it earlier on the podium. ..

Apparently upset, she left when the decision was made.

“All these variants have appeared. What would you do if you didn’t have a teacher?” Gutierrez said. “What if you don’t have a submarine as it is?”

On August 16, the district board approved a 7-0 vote for the district-wide Maskman Date before the fall semester began.

It was a move to say that director Conrad Garcia worked.

“We have a very small number, but unfortunately we realized that we couldn’t take on the governor,” Garcia said. Garcia said he feared that Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton would sue the district if they continued to oppose an executive order banning the district from requiring masks.

“We are caught here trying to do the right thing, but nonetheless our own politicians do not support it,” Garcia said.

He said he didn’t want to waste years of taxpayer money.

“If the Big Bad Wolf wants to sue us, let him sue us, but we must protect our students and staff,” Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez and Mario Rincon voted against robbing the mask. Both had a family who recently died from COVID-19.

“It is wrong in my opinion that we withdraw from this policy,” Rincon said.

According to Garcia, the mask is no longer needed, but I highly recommend it.

“Do you want to see your child die or get injured?” Garcia said. “Of course we don’t. This was a very difficult decision.”
