South Charleston, West Virginia (WBOY) – A man in Ohio has caught a record blue catfish in West Virginia.

On May 25, Steve Price, Lancaster, Ohio, caught an impressive blue catfish that broke state records in both weight and length, according to a statement from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. He was fishing from a boat at the bottom of the Kanawha River (RC Birdpool) between Buffalo and Point Pleasant.

Price’s record fish was 50.7 inches long and weighed a whopping 67.22 pounds. Trophy catfish have surpassed the 61.28 pound weight record for seven weeks.

If he was wondering why he was fishing, he used the cut shad bait.

Record catches for prices were measured by WVDNR’s Hatchery Manager prior to release.
