Westmoreland County, PA (KDKA) — Local contractors face several home renovation scams.
A Westmoreland County detective says Jason Piluru robbed victims of tens of thousands of dollars for a job he had never started. The alleged victims span several counties, and criminal court records show that Piluru had done this kind of thing before.
Heather Plou says he first noticed the 40-year-old pill after working for his family.
“My mother removed him from Angie’s List. He painted for her,” Plou said.
According to Plou, Piluru did a good job, so she asked Piluru to put a roof on the deck of her Unity Township house last year.
“He had to lower $ 9,100,” Prue said.
At the same time, Piluru lined up another home renovation job at Plou’s mother’s home in Greensburg.
“He bid on my mother for another project she was doing, and she then gave him $ 11,000 for that project,” Prue said.
After the two reached an agreement, Plou says Piluru prepared to start work, but never.
“He would have started one day and then called me and said that the weather was this and that it was back a day,” Plou said.
Plue displayed multiple text messages to KDKA, one stating that Piluru had a heart attack. Another claimed that the pill and his crew were exposed to the coronavirus.
And finally, Piluru claimed he died in his family.
“I told him to return my supplies,” Plou said.
As bad as a home renovation scam allegation, court records show that Piluru was charged with essentially the same thing about 10 years ago.
According to Chur’s records, Pill’s latest victims, Plou and her mom, were taken for $ 9,100 and $ 11,500, respectively. A 74-year-old woman in Harmine paid $ 20,500 to Piluru for nothing more than an empty promise, court records show.
KDKA’s Ross Guidotti spoke with Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck. He said other victims should call his office or local police.
Attempts to reach Pirl are underway.
