What are vision boards and why do they work

Everyone sets goals, such as measurable goals such as project completion, personal desires such as traveling around the world, and even workplace goals. Unfortunately, setting goals alone is not enough to push the boundaries. That’s why only 8 percent of people reach their goals.

So how do high performers do that?

By setting measurable goals, tracking them, and moving towards these goals daily.

What are SMART goals?

To easily measure your goals, you need to start with SMART goal setting. Abbreviation for SMART Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, deadline.. They help you set clear intentions so you can stay on the course with long-term goals.

When creating measurable goals, you need to look at each acronym term to make sure it is realistic and achievable.

It helps you set specific and rewarding goals that eliminate ambiguity and guesswork. It also has a clear deadline so you know when it needs to be completed.

Your goals need to be specific. Without idiosyncrasies, achieving and sticking to your goals will feel much more difficult.

You should also get specific results. Without results, it will be difficult to focus on your goals and continue working.

Two researchers, Edwin Locke and Gary Latham, have found that when people set specific, but challenging goals, performance improves in 90% of the time.

Here is an example of a specific goal: Increase sales by 10% in 90 days.


You need to be able to measure these goals.

Examine key indicators and quantify your goals to help you track your progress. It also identifies the mark that the task has been completed.

Measurable has many implications, but generally speaking, you need to be able to achieve your goals and objectively measure your success.

Allows you to quantify your goals, whether through analytical data, performance measurements, or direct revenue.


Given the time and resources you have at your disposal, is it realistically possible to achieve the overall goals you have set?

The time frame also creates a sense of urgency. It acts as a healthy tension that drives you and your team into action.

Examples of measurable goals

Now that you know what your SMART goals are, it’s time to help you create your own measurable goals and objectives.


Specific goals should identify the following:

  • What are the projects and tasks you have?
  • Who is responsible for the task? Who is responsible for each section when disassembling a task?
  • What steps do I need to complete to reach my goal?

Here are some bad examples:

I want to do a better job.

This example is inadequate because it is not concrete enough. Sure, it’s specific to your job, but it doesn’t explain if you need a promotion, salary increase, job change, etc.

How is your current job? Do you want to change your company or are you trying to improve your work-life balance?

Let’s turn this into a good example.

I want to find a new role in a Fortune 500 company that improves current salary and work-life balance.

Goals need to be measurable in a way that can provide concrete and concrete evidence. You should be able to identify what you will experience when you reach that goal.

Double the number of projects completed on a monthly basis.

This goal is now easier to measure. If you complete two more projects this month than last month, your work quality and productivity will be officially improved.

It is always important to look at your goals and make sure they are relevant and realistic to what you are doing in your life and business.

I need more responsibility, so I want to be promoted to CMO.

In this case, you are less likely to receive a promotion unless you have a strong purpose and reason behind your goal.

Here is a good example:

I enjoy digital marketing and want to be promoted to CMO. I currently excel in X, Y, Z digital marketing practices and believe that through promotion we can grow our business further through X, Y, Z.

Setting due dates helps teams set micro goals and milestones towards measurable goals. That way, you can plan your workload for days, weeks, or months so your team doesn’t compete with time.

Let’s start with a bad example:

Grow your marketing team to expand your digital presence.

This is a great idea, but when will all of this happen?

Instead, let’s turn this into a good example.

Increase marketing revenue by XX% by the end of next month. Then, within three months, we’ll expand our digital team, hire two new employees, and scale up.


If you want to create a measurable goal, be smart about it. Start with specific results in mind. Make sure it is measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely to your existing schedule.
