At JFK Bridge, lanes will not be closed during hurricane seasons, Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, and other events. TXDOT shared with the city council on Tuesday.
The $ 8.7 million 19-month project will begin in the first week of December, with concrete barricades installed as early as the last week of November.
Many of the projects include maintenance, structural repair of concrete, and replacement of components such as bearing pads and bridge points. These will be the first major repairs to the bridge since 1973.
The east and west lanes will be closed from December to May.
There are no westbound closures during the hurricane season, from beach to bay to conquer the coast. During Anniversary and Labor Day, single lane closures are only allowed from Monday to Thursday and all lanes are open from Friday to Sunday.
The bridge will be completely closed only for 30 minutes from 10 pm to 4 am
The first phase of the three-phase project is from December 2021 to May 2022. Phase 2 will begin in June 2022 and end in November 2022. The final phase begins in December 2022 and ends before and after Memorial Day. 2023.
The project is expected to be completed by May 2023.
