Horry County, South Carolina (WBTW) – Due to the proximity of the school, some students return to class directly for the first time in a year.

In last grade, the COVID-19 pandemic required families to adapt to a whole new lifestyle and switch to virtual or hybrid learning.

First, talk to the children about the emotions surrounding returning to school. Tidelands Health experts said it was best for children to enter school routines before the start of a new school year. Changing schools and procedures can be difficult for some students, but if your child is stressed, anxious, or nervous at any grade, you can talk to them and stay positive. Always the best.

“So really talking to the child and trying to figure out where their anxieties are is really the key to a complete transition to a year easier than next year,” said Dr. Lucretia Carter.

Dr. Carter said that even students who had previously attended school may have difficulty coping with change. If your child feels anxious or nervous, it is always best to talk to them.

“The first time they go to school, they really don’t know the difference, so this is healthy for them, whether or not the school has masking to teach them to do it the right way. It’s a great opportunity to teach practice, “Dr. Carter said.

The first day of returning to Holly County student school is August 17th. As of Wednesday, the HCS encourages students to wear masks, but South Carolina law states that districts cannot require masks.
