Corpus Christi Rodeo will kick off Thursday night at the first of four consecutive performances.
The rodeo will begin at the American Bank Center on May 6, 7 and 8 at 7 pm.The last Sunday event starts at 3pm
After being canceled in 2020, this year’s event has a lot of excitement. Here are some things to keep your eyes on:
What you need to know
Rodeo Corpus Christi has partnered with world champion Rodeo Alliance to host the first stop of the 2021 WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo Tour.
Rodeo athletes from around the world will effectively participate in this event, competing for a $ 500,000 wallet.
“This innovative approach to rodeos will allow rodeo athletes to increase their prizes, showcase the city of Corpus Christi and eventually return more money to South Texas student scholarships.” Johnny Filipello, President and CEO of the Buccaneer Commission, said in a statement.
Some nights in the rodeo also have their own themes along with special presentations. Among the themes are college nights and military / first responder nights.
“All the dollars collected from these events will be used to support scholarships,” Filipello said. “We are hopefully excited to take over that mission.”
What to watch out for
For the first time, professional bull riders from all over North America will be able to participate in local rodeos.
2020 PBR World Champion Josebitor Reme and 4th place rider Joan Ricardo Vieira will be on the weekends.
All four days of the rodeo will be broadcast nationwide on a set date and time on CBS TV Network, including the rodeo final on Sunday.
