Corpus Christi, Texas — Saturday morning, 100 firefighters, police, and troops climbed into Whataburger Field seats to honor first responders on 9/11.

Each had the option of carrying 110 flights per World Trade Center and 220 or 440 flights to both towers.

Paramedic Cassandra Goose, Firefighter II of the Corpus Christi Fire Department, said:

Flour Bluff NJROTC cadets also attended the event and handed out water to the first respondents.

“”[It was] To show the firefighters who climbed the stairs as they climbed up and down the smoke and how hard it was for them, “said Commander Kamurin Bowman.

They remembered that while people ran for safety on September 11, these men and women went towards the flames to save others-many never accomplished it that day. bottom.

“That means there’s a lot of time and sweat to come here to show what they’ve given to their lives,” said EMT student Jacob Olmeda.

Prior to the climb, the local refinery Lyondell Basell donated $ 5,000 to the Corpus Christi Firefighter Relief and Outreach Foundation and the Corpus Christi Police Foundation, respectively. A new mural by local artist Jeremi Flores has also been announced.

And at 8:59 am and 9:28 am, the moment of silence when each tower collapsed.

“I was proud to wear this uniform,” said a Flour Bluff NJROTC cadet about eavesdropping on TAPS at the moment of silence. “I was proud to represent and remember the first responders who died.”

Those heroes from that day inspire their later generations.

“It’s also far from praising those who sacrifice everything every day,” Gorse said. “We tend to forget every day what first responders and troops are doing for us.”

“It reminds us why we entered this business, but it also reminds us of what it is to be an American,” said CCPD Police Chief David Blackmon.

Climbers said the country needs more unity and support than ever before.

“Because everything is happening in the world, we need more people to give and help and be willing to be there at all times,” Olmeda said.
