Amy Cooper’s virtual hearing will take place on Monday while her lawyer is working on a petition arrangement.
Cooper has been charged with filing a false police report after calling 911 in May and claiming that birdwatcher Christian Cooper had threatened her.
She may need to run community services.
A court appearance and paperwork in October 2020 revealed that Amy Cooper called 911 a second time and claimed that a man had “attempted to assault” her in a park rumble. It was.
This was the first time authorities had revealed that the 9/11 attacks had occurred.
After being posted on social media, only the first phone call, which Cooper emphasized as an “African-American man” and claimed that the man was threatening her and her dog, was previously reported. It was.
When the police arrived, Cooper told the police that she had called. Police officers asked if the man she was describing “tried to assault or touch her in some way, but she said no.”
“The use of police in a manner designed to be racist and menacing is not negligible,” said Joan Ilsi, assistant district attorney, in October. “This process can be an introspection and educational opportunity. Over the next few weeks, it is designed to not only hold the defendant responsible for her actions, but also educate her and the community about the harm caused. We will explore the program of defense. We hope that by such actions, this process will raise awareness, heal and prevent similar harm to our community in the future. “
Manhattan District Attorney CyVance, Jr. Issued the following statement in October:
“Our office is committed to safety, justice and anti-racism, and we hold responsibility for anyone who misrepresents a racist 911 call. As alleged in the complaint, Amy Cooper Engaged in racist criminal activity when he mistakenly accused a black man of trying to attack her on a previously unreported second call with a 911 dispatcher, but fortunately No one was injured or killed in the police response to Mr. Cooper’s mischief. Our community restores justice and others perpetuate this racist practice. It discourages me. “
