Wuhan, China (AP) —A global team of researchers arrives in a Chinese city where a coronavirus pandemic was first detected amid uncertainty about whether Beijing would try to prevent embarrassing discoveries. ..

10 of the members of the team were sent to Wuhan by the World Health Organization, after a diplomatic dispute of several months that caused the complaints of abnormal citizens by the head of the WHO, was approved by the government of Xi Jinping president.

Scientists suspect that the virus, which has killed more than 1.9 million people since late 2019, may have jumped into humans from bats and other animals.

Beijing has been plagued by accusations of allowing the disease to spread, suggesting that the virus came from abroad, but foreign scientists say it is unlikely.

It’s been a year since WHO announced the outbreak of a new coronavirus in Wuhan. And Monday marks the year since the Chinese mass media reported the first known death from COVID-19 in Asian countries. China said it was a 61 year old man.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 92 million people worldwide have been positive for the virus since the coronavirus began to spread to various countries early last year.

The United States continues to lead the world in cases and deaths, with more than 23 million cases confirmed and approximately 384,794 deaths nationwide as of Thursday morning.
