CAÑON CITY — After I’ll talk just a week ago Regarding mask requirements in Canon City, students are in a maskless classroom this week.

The Fremont County Health Department, Board of Health, and Cañon City’s Re.1 school district were expected to agree to a consent order requiring a 60-day mask.

“On Wednesday, we saw a copy of the order, my board considered it, and the president and I signed it,” said George Welsh, school director at Canon City.

On Friday evening, the Health Commission issued a statement stating that it would not sign the consent order after it was signed by the Ministry of Health and the school district.

“It wasn’t signed because the Commission, a health committee, decided not to sign it individually,” said County Commissioner Dwayne McFaul.

Due to mask requirements, Canon City students were required to wear masks until late January.

The school district says they will obey if the county implements the delegation.

Currently, the school district has no plans to request masks on its own.
