Why did vaccinations jump by 100,000? – Wichita, Kansas

Wichita, Kansas 2021-07-23 15:46:56 –

Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — State health leaders continue to fight the coronavirus pandemic, resulting in a significant increase in Kansas vaccinations on Friday.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) reports that more than 55,639 Kansas received the first COVID-19 vaccine and more than 44,734 Kansas received the second. A total of 100,373 shots since Wednesday. It’s also at least 10 times higher than recent updates.

I asked KDHE for an explanation. They said that about 90,000 doses dating back to February were added to the Friday count.

“This is primarily due to the vaccine given by CVS through a federal partnership program that was not previously uploaded to our records,” said a KDHE spokeswoman.

At an additional dose, it means that nearly half of Kansas’ eligible population, 49.59%, has completed the COVID-19 vaccination process. Over 56% of the population receives at least one dose.

KDHE also updated the number of coronavirus and delta mutants on Friday.

Since Wednesday, 21 more people have died and 66 new hospitalizations have been associated with COVID-19. KDHE does not track recovery.

In the last two days, 1,539 Kansas have been positive for coronavirus and 2,990 have been negative.

There are 140 more cases of delta variants. You can see the numbers for each county in the graph below.

KDHE releases these updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
