Wichita, Kansas (KSNW)-The first Pentecostal church teen outreach program is working to raise awareness of the victims of violence against young people in Wichita. They hosted the STAND (Standing Together and Not Defeated) Up Rally on Saturday.

Through singing, dancing, and prayer, Zena Hardyway wanted to unite the city to fight the deadly gun violence of Wichita’s teens.

“Now there is no option to do nothing,” Hardyway said.

The organizers of STAND Up Rally said things have changed this week and are grateful to be part of several community organizations that hold weekly events against gun violence.

“These kids have been shot, hanging out with the wrong friends and at the wrong time in the wrong place,” said teen outreach adviser Jesse Cornwell. “These are unintended victims.”

Zena Hardyway is the director of Teen Outreach. She wants the young Wichita to know that there are more solutions to the problems life poses.

“Know that there is someone you can get, stand with you, pray with you, and guide you to the right place to help you,” Hardyway said. ..

She urges everyone from the church to the school system to give Wichita teens another path.

“We have a table there that has all sorts of outreach stuff they can get,” Hardy Way said. “When they leave today, they have a phone number, contact information-there’s all sorts of things they can grab.”

Cornwell hopes that today’s event will unite the city and ask the community to do more than blame each other.

“When we stop blaming each other and start praying for each other, I think the real conversation can come from it,” Cornwell said. “We have someone who cares about you, and we are here with our arms outstretched.”

Organizers said there would be another rally at Globe Park on Sunday at 2:00 pm
