Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – Gas prices in Kansas are rising again. Currently, the state average is over $ 3 per gallon. This is the highest number since 2014.

This increase comes after gas and oil production fell sharply last year.

Some organizations are worried about their budget because of the higher than usual prices.

Kevin Fish, Executive Director of Ability Points, said:

Nonprofit Ability Point uses these buses to provide opportunities for many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“We strive to connect people with the community and participate in a variety of activities, so transportation costs are one of the biggest costs,” Fish explained. “If we had a way to absorb it, we would never want to pass that cost on to our families, but for nonprofits it’s really hard.”

Gas prices are rising nationwide as production slows globally. But economic expert Jeremy Hill says Kansas is seeing a particular increase.

“We had even faster highs. Prices went up even further because of more supply constraints here in the Midwest and Oklahoma not producing,” said Jeremy Hill, director of the WSU Economic Development Center. I am.

Hill believes prices haven’t peaked yet. No one is excited about the rise in prices, but Hill said he could afford the extra costs.

“Last year, on average, wages rose very fast. This is the best we’ve had over a decade and it still has more money for you to pay for it. That means, “Hill said. “It’s a shocker, a sticker shocker, but in reality you have more in your pocket to pay for it.”
