Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – The Wichita Thunder Hockey Team will offer a free home game ticket on May 11 when presenting your vaccination card.
General Manager Joel Romulno said: Thunder.
Lomurno says he wants to incentivize people to come to the game and get people to get the vaccine.
“I like playing with us,” Romurno said. “There are a lot of teams that aren’t playing.”
Romurno is not the only one who wants people to be vaccinated.
Health leaders in Sedgwick County will consider promoting incentives this week.
The cash incentive seems to be off the table. County Commissioner Pete Meitzner says he doesn’t like the idea of offering cash.
“I think we support incentives,” Meitzner said.
“Show me the money,” said Jim Howell. “Where does it come from?”
County Health Officer Dr. Garold Minns said incentives may be needed and they will investigate the idea. Minds says there is no problem with the availability of the vaccine.
“Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are plentiful, partly because few people register and keep ordering vaccines,” Mins said.
Thunder hockey team leaders say it makes sense to play long distances during a pandemic and provide incentives to vaccinate and participate in the game.
“Just to get hockey and fans in our game,” Romurno said. “Young people, for these people, get vaccinated and put things in the right direction.”
