Wichita, Canada (KSNW) – Growing up in Canada, Jordan Barazovic had a hockey stick in one hand and a baseball glove in the other.
“It’s come too far,” Barazovic said. “My parents said,’You have to choose one or the other.'”
Ultimately, he chose a family-running sport.
“They love baseball. They like it better than hockey,” Barazovic said. “My dad played it and my grandfather played it-he was actually a Cleveland Indians outfielder.”
The freezing ice rink also influenced his decision, admitting that “we all live in Canada, so we don’t like the funny cold.”
The opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather’s Major League Baseball surprised right-handed pitchers.
“Travel balls have helped me a lot, but I wasn’t a big deal,” Barazovic said. “I came out of nowhere.”
It took only one pitch in a perfect game tournament in Mississauga, Ontario, in Fort Myers, Florida. Native to ride MLB radar.
“I’m 17 and I think I’ve reached 90. [mph] For the first time, “Balazovic said. “At that time, I was trying to get a scholarship somewhere.”
That same year, in 2016, Barazovic’s professional baseball career began earlier than expected when he was selected for the Minnesota Twins in the fifth round of the MLB draft.
“I seized the opportunity and did it,” Barazovic said.
All he needed was a chance. Currently, Barazovic is the best pitching prospect in the Twins organization.
“I wouldn’t have expected it to change,” Barazovic said. “I’m just working hard. That’s my passion.”
Barazovic hopes his passion will take him to Major League Baseball as another Canadian who impresses American entertainment.
