The move was expected as general manager Bill Gerin revealed that the 19-year-old forward would be given every opportunity to make a roster from the training camp. He is a very skilled and aggressive player, with game-breaking abilities that the NHL Central Scout compared to Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand before the draft.
Undoubtedly Wild’s best chance to hit the center, Rossi played 56 games in Ottawa 67 in the Ontario Hockey League last season, scoring 39 goals and 81 assists. He was OHL’s best player last season. He was considered by many draft analysts to be the most NHL-friendly prospect other than Alexis La Frenière, who ranked first overall.
In another transaction on Friday, Wild resigned the defense Luis Belpidio For a one-year two-way contract. He was Wild’s last pending restricted free agent.
