Wilkinsburg (KDKA) — The latest new statue of President Abraham Lincoln stands in the Wilkinsburg Autonomous Region building.
It was announced at a small ceremony on Tuesday morning.
The Wilkinsburg Historical Society has spent two years raising money for a new statue. According to Trib, the president of the Historical Society has launched the GoFundMe page to fund its operations.
Sculptor Susan Wagner has created a new bronze statue of Lincoln.
The old statue of Lincoln was demolished on Monday and carried away to give way to a new one.
“Hundreds of people wanted to see Abraham Lincoln standing again on that hill at the crossroads. Some loved Lincoln and they missed his presence on the hill.” Said Anne Elise Morris, President of the Wilkinsburg Historical Society.
The borough building will temporarily house the statue until spring, when it moves out to a new park at the intersection of Ardmore and Penn Avenue.
