The National Meteorological Service states that Nicholas could reach a state of hurricane. A storm is considered a hurricane if it sustains a wind of at least 74 mph. The storm is currently blowing at 60 mph.
“Today, strengthening is expected and Nicholas could reach the northwestern Gulf Coast as a hurricane,” said Eric Blake, senior specialist at the National Hurricane Center.
However, AccuWeather meteorologist Ryan Adamson suggested that the storm would spend a limited amount of time in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and never reach the strength of the hurricane.
