Santa Anna (CBSLA) —A Anaheim male prosecutor said he killed his wife on Christmas day, supported her on a sofa while the children were opening presents, and was convicted of a second murder on Wednesday.
Wallace was charged with a felony in 2012 by a grand jury murdering his wife, 26-year-old Zazel Preston. Prosecutors said he hit Preston’s head and made her unconscious, and later called 911 to report that she needed treatment. Preston was found dead unresponsive in the hospital.
According to police, Wallace previously spent his time in jail for beating his wife, who was taking college classes in hopes of becoming a domestic violence counselor. Her children, three- and eight-year-old daughters from a previous relationship, and a seven-week-old son she shared with Wallace were in the apartment at the time of the murder.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said it was already tragic that a young mother died after years of violence by her husband.
“The broken heart is exacerbated only by the fact that her children witnessed much of the violence and were forced to celebrate Christmas in front of their dead mother. It should be forced on any child of Christmas. It’s not a memory, “Spitzer said in a statement.
