Franklin, TN (WTVF) — Another 2600 Tennessees have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The CDC recommends that everyone wear a mask while in the classroom, regardless of vaccination status, as the children are ready to return to school.

Some parents here in central Tennessee want it to happen, but so far most districts say masks are optional.

Laura Koons organized a small group of protesters in front of Williamson County School Headquarters on Thursday. She goes to school at the age of nine.

“I feel like I have to flip a coin between their physical and mental health,” Koons said.

Her concerns arise when state-wide school boards and leaders decide whether to change their own masking policies as the Delta variant spreads.

“We know that this delta strain is very contagious. People were using masks to catch COVIDs at school last year, we’ll see an uncontrollable spread,” Koons said. Told.

The Williamson County School of Education states that decisions will be made based on regional data as well as state and national recommendations. Decisions that may change the mask policy in the future.
