Tulsa-Aaron Whitefield, Oklahoma drove three runs and Wichita Wind Surge defeated the Tulsa Drillers 4-2 in 10 innings in front of a sold-out crowd of 7,935 in Tulsa’s ONEOK field.
The Drillers scored a run in the 4th inning to lead 1-0. Tulsa added another run to get a 2-0 advantage in the 5th inning.
The surge was held without hits during the first six innings of the game. Tulsa starter Ryan Pepiot allowed one base runner on six walks. The Windsurge attack tied the game seventh, with Germain Palacios drawing a lead-off walk and Arnie de la Trinidad scoring a single on the left fielder. Whitefield drilled a two-out, two-run single into the centerfield to tie the game.
In the 10th inning, Pinch runner BJ Boyd advanced to 3rd place on the ground from Andrew Vectored, scoring on Whitefield’s sacrifice fly. Peter Mooney followed with a solo home run.
Zack Neff won his third win of the season with innings and two-thirds. Windsurge lost in a row in five long-season games. The team has a 19-16 record, 2½ games behind Tulsa.
Wichita improved to 2-1 in an additional inning game. Caleb Hamilton’s nine consecutive hits ended with four at bats and no hits. Giovani Moran pitched two scoreless innings, but did not allow the run in the last seven appearances (12 2/3 innings).
