What is a “twindemic”?
Medical experts say COVID-19 may face a recurrence of seasonal flu and a share of the winter landscape.
“What we are really worried about is that the combination of influenza and COVID-19 both show very similar symptoms and can cause many problems in duplicate,” said UW Health. Dr. Jim Conway, Medical Director of the Immune Program, a pediatric infectious disease expert speaks to WTMJ.
He says combinations that come within relaxed restrictions can fill the hospital.
He proposes to get both shots.
“The goal is to protect as many people as possible from these two bad guys, and I hope that at least most of the circulating things will be respiratory colds and the like.”
The year of influenza in 2020 was low, but now it may return to normal.
“We’re talking about 20 to 30 million cases a year on average. We’re talking about 10,000 to 60,000 dead.”
