The mother and her two teenagers say they went to a house in Montgomery County on Saturday to steal jewelry after a thief stole a car.
The unidentified mother said the problem began when she and her daughter parked in the Westfield Montgomery garage around 5 pm.
“It’s an overwhelming amount of emotion,” she said. “I’m scared and sometimes feel helpless.”
She said her car was unlocked and two thieves broke in and found an ID with her daughter’s debit card, home address and home key.
“I checked to see if it was there and it was gone. I was hungry because the address was listed,” she said.
Victims said two men tried to use the card at the mall but it didn’t work.
“I kept getting notifications on my phone that they were trying to use it, but the deal was rejected,” she said.
The mother then called her teenage son at home to inform him of the car’s intrusion and warned the suspect that he had his address and house key.
Worried, he left home and called the police. Meanwhile, the mother and daughter went home and found the front door unlocked.
“I started walking inside, shouting my son’s name, but I couldn’t hear anything,” the mother said.
Victims said they fled outside as soon as they saw the two suspects.
According to police, a pair of thieves got into the car and ran away.
A mobile phone video shows that the Montgomery County Police arrived home a few seconds later.
The mother said the thief ran away with a jewel.
While police were investigating, the family said they had learned valuable lessons.
“Lock the car,” the mother said. “Don’t leave your valuables in the car.”
On Monday night, police were investigating whether surveillance video used a card stolen at the mall to capture the suspect. They encourage anyone who has information about the incident to call them.
