A 48-year-old woman suffered burns on her arms and face, but managed to escape from Kahaluu’s burning house this afternoon.
She suffered one and two burns, the Honolulu Fire Department said.
“Firefighters tend to get burned and have moved care to EMS,” HFD said in a news release. “It is estimated that burns cover 13% of her body.”
EMS personnel treated the woman in an ambulance and transferred her to Adventist Health Castle in severe condition.
Firefighters responded swiftly to the 4:36 pm fire at 47-337 Waihee Rd.
The first unit arrived at 4:38 pm and found smoke coming out of the windows of the single-family home.
HFD dispatched nine units with 38 personnel to control the fire in six minutes and then immediately extinguish it.
The fire was contained in the kitchen and living room area.
The fire is under investigation and no estimates of damage are available, HFD said tonight.
