Cleveland (WJW) – Two women are safe after receiving dramatic rescue on the shoreline of Lake Erie early Friday morning.
Cleveland Metroparks Police, Cleveland Police, and Rescuers responded to the chaotic scene of East 55th Street Marina after 2 am. They received a 911 call that a woman had fallen into a lake near the breakwater.
In addition to the initial confusion, the caller was unable to give an accurate description of where the emergency was occurring. The caller told the coordinator, “I’m on the 72nd and St. Clair is in the lake … my sister has fallen into the lake. We’re hugging her now.”
It turns out that a group of people was on the shore of the lake, and after the first victim fell into the lake, another member of the group jumped in to help her. One of the women was able to escape by climbing the breakwater ladder.
Police threw a life jacket at a second woman in the water and asked her to put a rescue rope under her arm. Using their combined strength, the victim’s friends, police officers, and rescue workers worked together to pull the victim to the breakwater.
The two women were evaluated by emergency medical personnel and refused further treatment.
