Pasadena, CA (KCBS) – Two women in California say their move day turned into a nightmare when faced with police with a gun. They claim they were unfairly targeted, and now they are suing.

“That was horrifying. Probably the most feared thing in my life,” said Sheilanee Sen.

Film producer Shibani Balsaver and community developer Sen rented a U-Hall to help move Balsaver from Hollywood to his new home in Los Angeles when pulled by the Los Angeles Police Department. The women remember wondering what they did. When they parked the U Hall in front of Barsaver’s new home, they saw at least 10 police officers, guns pulled and helicopters flying over.

“I thought I’d be shot, and I really thought it was over,” Barsaver recalls.

The duo was ordered to leave the U-Hall with his hands behind his head and walk backwards towards the police. After that, they say they were slammed on the ground. “I felt his knees on my back and neck, pushing me down the pavement and pushing my face down. I was really scared,” said Balsaber.

They said they were told by the LAPD that they were pulled because they thought the U-Hall had been stolen until they were behind the police car. Balsaber told police officers that he had a receipt for the U Hall he borrowed earlier that morning in his wallet. After that, the women were let go.

The case took place in February 2020, but their lawyer Brian Olney said this should not have happened and is now in a proceeding against police. “The court makes it very clear, but the LAPD refuses to listen. They know what the law is, they swear to uphold it, but they Deliberately decided to break it, “he said.

When asked to comment, the LAPD said it could not comment on this issue at this time.
