Worcester, Massachusetts. (WHDH)-The Worcester community rode ice to help Milton Academy students who were seriously injured during a hockey game clash.

To boost 18-year-old Fitchburg’s Jake Tibaud, people of all ages donated $ 10 to participate in free skating at the Harding Street Ice Center.

“Tonight is about Jake, about raising money for Jake and his family,” said event organizer Tina Gendron. “Help Jake recover and take him where he needs it.”

The teenager remained paralyzed from the waist down after suffering a severe spinal cord injury during the match.

“He’s attacking rehab at full speed. He’s really going well. They’re very happy with it,” said Tibaud’s father Mike.

He said their family was grateful for the overwhelming support and vowed that one day his son would walk again.

“Once again, the hockey community is coming a long way. We’re very excited not only with poor Jake and this, but also with this connecting people and making Jake part of the conversation,” he says. I did. “I think it proves who he is. He’s a great kid.”

A friend set up as he recovered GoFundMe page For Jake, who raised over $ 430,000.
