Smithland, Iowa (AP) — About 80 years after being killed in Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, Wesley Brown rested in Iowa.

Dozens of people who had no chance to know Brown gathered on Saturday to honor Brown buried in Smithland’s Little Sioux Township Cemetery. His last resting place is near the graves of his mother and sister, who died long before DNA tests identified the bodies.

Brown died at the age of 25 on a USS Oklahoma during the attack on Pearl Harbor in Japan on December 7, 1941. Roy Storble, married to Brown’s great Nice, said the burial brought great peace to his family.
